Another successful edition of Hack4Split social hackathon is behind us! The goal of this event is to discover and implement socially beneficial green solutions that would enhance our local community using state-of-the-art technologies. On Saturday and Sunday, April 15th and 16th, this year’s Hack4Split hackathon took place at the SPINIT incubator, organized by the Entrepreneurship Center Split and the Student Entrepreneurship Incubator of the Faculty of Economics, as part of the University Green Digital project. A total of 8 teams with 33 participants worked in a vibrant and proactive atmosphere to address various social issues, contributing to the progress of our community.
The sixth edition of the hackathon brought together a significant number of talented individuals with excellent ideas resulting in projects applicable in various social and economic spheres, united by the common theme of using modern technologies.
Here are the projects presented in order:
– Conscious Cloth – a clothing brand that, through an attractive redesign, enables the reuse of old clothing;
– Dalmatian Roots – an interactive map of eco producers of olive oil, wine, and other Dalmatian products in the region;
– Quick Recycle – an application for recycling small quantities of PET waste with user rewards;
– Green Guardian – a platform to reduce single-use plastics in restaurants;
– BeBee – an IoT solution that allows control of conditions within beehives;
– CRO PET – a platform for adopting abandoned animals;
– Sortify – an application for recognizing recyclable waste that includes user rewards;
– Smart Library – autonomous libraries made of 3D printed recycled material.
The “Smart Library” team won the “Best Design” award for the prototype they created in just two days. The “Best Green Solution” award went to the “Sortify” team, while the overall winners of the hackathon and recipients of the “Best Team” award were the “BeBee” team who did the best job during the hackathon.
In addition to the working and competitive parts of the hackathon, workshops on idea validation were held, led by Arjan Goudsbloom and Tomas Pinjušić, as well as a workshop on presentation skills led by Pinija Poljaković. Participants had access to 10 mentors from various fields of business and technical product or service development throughout the hackathon.

As a green-oriented hackathon, Hack4Split is taking place this year at three locations through the University Green Digital HUB project, at partner universities in Spain, Germany, and Croatia. The main goal of the project is to strengthen the digital, green, and entrepreneurial skills of students, university startups, and university staff, as well as to enhance the capacities of higher education institutions in the field of teaching for digital and green transition.
The “University Green Digital HUB” project lasts for 24 months and is co-financed by the Erasmus+ program.
